Intro
The witches flung themselves out into the Essex night. Taking over hamlets and villages. Embedding themselves within the heart beat of the area. Washing dishes in the manor houses, nurturing the babies of new mothers, selling cure ailments to the physcially and mentally sick. Just trying to survive in the savage landscape of 17th century England.
An age where they were persecuted for being different, for being outside of society. On the fringes, where doubt and fear lingered. Where powerful people could stir the masses into a mass hysteria....

The Essex Witch Trails is a bike ride that connects you to the landscape where centuries ago women were executed on trumped up charges from statements made under duress and torture. Each rider will receive the gps route and a booklet in the post, which like a brevet card will need to be authenticated. There will be six stamps to collect. Each place is a village where one of the accused lived. There will be a photo that you must take of a specific thing.
The Shirt
Once you’ve completed the ride and shown me the pictures as your proof of passage,
I will send a t-shirt and the six stamped cards to put in your booklet.
This is a self-supported ride, an unorganized event. So join at your peril and make sure you are confident that you can fix any mechanicals yourself and are in a fit condition to ride.
